Dental bridges

What are dental bridges?

A dental bridge is a replacement tooth that fills in the space left behind by a missing tooth. The bridge creates a natural appearance with all the functionality of a natural tooth.

Bridges are an ideal option for a damaged tooth that still has a healthy foundation. Bridges can greatly improve the strength and look of teeth. Gaps in your smile can cause serious damage to your teeth- this is where bridges play a key role. The finished result of well-fitted bridges is a healthy mouth and an attractive smile.

The benefits of dental bridges

We may recommend a bridge/bridges to:

  • Restore or improve your smile
  • Makes it easier to chew and eat properly
  • Improve the clarity of speech lost due to the absence of a natural tooth.
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Re-adjust your bite, which in turn properly distributes the force when you chew
  • Prevent your remaining teeth from shifting

How are bridges inserted?

Inserting dental bridges involves two trips to the Dentist. During your first visit, the abutment teeth are prepared by removing a portion of the enamel to make room for the crown to be placed over them. After that, we make impressions of the teeth. We create a temporary bridge for you to wear in order to protect the exposed teeth and gums while you wait for the permanent bridge to be inserted.

During your second visit, we remove your temporary bridge and insert and adjust as required, to achieve a proper fit.
