General dentistry

At Ashmed Dental, we take the oral health of all our patients very seriously.

Our goal is to preserve your natural teeth by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of oral conditions and diseases. No matter how meticulous you are with oral hygiene, tartar and plaque can still build up on teeth.

A comprehensive oral exam will also help pick up any oral issues such as cavities and gum diseases. For this reason, we recommend that you visit your dentist at least once every six months.

We offer the following General Dentistry Services:

General dental check-ups

The prevention of dental problems is our foremost priority at Ashmed Dental. We recommend scheduling a dental examination at 6 month intervals to prevent dental decay, which can eventually lead to unnecessary extractions and root canals. We may also take diagnostic x-rays to find hidden cavities, to assess oral health, the joints, and the presence of any impacted teeth.

Dental cleaning and scaling

Our dentists are specially trained in the prevention of periodontal (gum) disease and dental cavities. We will remove plaque and surface stains by gentle scraping, polishing. For children, we provide protective coatings called Fissure sealants for the back teeth and educate them on correct oral hygiene habits.

General anaesthesia and sedation

We know that some people feel anxious when receiving dental treatment. This is why we may use general sedation to relieve anxiety and reduce pain. General sedation is a safe and effective way of administering medication. The aim of general sedation is to make you feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible while receiving the best possible treatment.

Extractions

If a tooth is broken or damaged by decay, we will first try to repair it with a crown or filling. At times though, there is too much damage to save the tooth. In this case, we have to remove the tooth. At Ashmed Dental, we provide general tooth extractions.

First, we loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator and then use a special instrument called a forceps to remove the tooth. We normally use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, but for more anxious patients, general anaesthesia is available.
